Fine dining in the heart of Nimmanhaemin with Akyra Manor.
Along one of the many side streets of Nimmanhaemin Road hides the contemporary 5-star Akyra Manor hotel, featuring a compact rooftop pool with impressive views on the top floor and the elegant Italics fine dining restaurant hovering above ground level. An elegant setting and great location, Italics is one of the best restaurants in the Nimmanhaemin area thanks to a large, innovative menu offering both Italian and Thai specialties.
The interior of Italics is seductive and alluring, with gold and black colour scheme and large candlestick decorations, while the menu has been designed to look like a magazine, and features all the best dishes of Chiang Mai, as well as Italian delights. Chef Phubase and his expert team source local ingredients whenever possible and have created a fine selection of aperitifs including a cold cuts platter featuring Chiang Rai cheese. The salads are distinctly Mediterranean, in taste and colours, with vibrant ingredients sourced from Thailand to offer the freshest ingredients possible.
A must try are their artisan appetizers, which blend western and Asian delights to perfection. The main meals consist of pasta dishes, pizza and a range of Thai food (including the northern delight Khao Soi). For those who love coffee then Italics offers Coffee Braised Short Rib Pork with crispy homemade gnocchi. Meals come served on stylish granite plates, which perfectly fit the ultra-modern vibe of the restaurant.
As to be expected, their dessert is as good as their main menu, with exotic selections such as mango pannacotta and banana ricotta cheesecake. And then there is the rather substantial drinks list with cocktails that could double as dessert. If you go for cocktails, I recommend adjourning to the rooftop bar.
The atmosphere and food at Italics are already impressive but if you want to really treat yourself then Akyra Manor can organise a private dining experience for up to 12 people at the Chef’s Table with Chef Phubase himself. A stunning, customised menu will be designed based on personal tastes along with a suitable wine pairing for dishes. Perfect for special occasions.
